Plastic material is witnessed in many ways in everyday life; through beverages like soda pop or milk, on school supplies and other projects. Plastic is everywhere and many places it isn’t ought to be. The amount of plastic that makes it into the oceans around the world is extraordinary in every negative way imaginable. It is one of the biggest threats to the health of the ocean. The levels of plastic production is at an all-time high in today’s fast producing global economy. Unfortunately, many metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year, causing massive effects to the marine life that make the ocean home. 

One of the best ways to reduce the amount of plastic waste that makes it into unwanted places is through reduction. Reduction can come in many ways and there are plenty of sound tips to reduce plastic in hopes of eliminating marine and coastal recovered plastic material. It starts with eliminating the use of plastics that an individual would use once before discarding. This can include utensils, bottles, straws and take-out containers. There are perfect alternatives to these products and a person simply needs to plan ahead and be a bit mindful when looking for a quick bite to eat or beverage to consume. 

Another efficient way one can limit his or her use of plastics is through recycling properly. Putting plastics in improper places means that copious amounts of plastic waste ends up in spots like the oceans. Be mindful of where you are disposing of plastic material. The effort on one’s part to recycle is minimal. Find places that will recycle plastics and go from there. 

There are plenty of alternatives to plastic that function equally or greater than the material. In terms of a global waste epidemics, there are few things in the same category as plastic. With all things considered, plastic simply isn’t very eco-friendly. Stuff that remains eco-friendly is out there and needs to be used. 

Glass is one of them. Often you’ll find something that goes against the grain–looking back in time at more efficient ways of doing so is one of them. In the topic of glass, one is quite literally doing just that. Glass is made out of sand, a renewable resource that is free from many of the harmful chemicals seen in plastics around the world. 

Not so long ago, plenty of household items were put into glass containers. Milk is one that seems to come to mind. Glass is a wonderful way to limit the use of plastics. 
Reusable shopping bags are another. Think of how many times you frequent the store to get general goods and are offered a plastic bag to carry them in. It can be somewhat more convenient for a moment or two but also isn’t a necessity. Instead have a reusable bag or two on you when going to the store. They can not only be sturdier than plastic bag alternatives, but also can be used over and over again, limiting the likelihood of a plastic bag ending up in an Octopuses’ garden.
